Quick answer

American startup Evotrex, founded just two years ago, is preparing to enter the hybrid campervan market with its PG5 model. The company raised $30 million in a Series A round, bringing its total investment to $46 million. Key investors include Chinese and Hong Kong-based funds such as GSR United Capital and Forebright Concerto Capital, as well as Anker, known for its electronic accessories.

Unlike competitors like Lightship and Pebble, which focus on fully electric campervans, Evotrex is developing a hybrid system with extended range (EREV). The PG5 model features a battery that can be charged from external sources or via an integrated gasoline generator, allowing owners to travel off-grid for extended periods without needing to connect to the power grid.

According to co-founder Alex Xiao, 90% of pre-orders are for the top-tier Premium configuration, priced at around $160,000. The startup has completed a functional prototype and plans to conduct rigorous testing over the next 10–12 months. Special attention is being given to structural reliability—a critical issue in the industry due to the numerous moving parts in campervans.

Production will be based in China with final assembly in California. Evotrex aims to fill a niche where traditional manufacturers like Thor and Winnebago have yet to offer mass-market solutions. The company is leveraging Anker’s experience in engaging its target audience and promoting products through loyal customers.
