The Startup Battlefield competition, held as part of the TechCrunch Disrupt conference, has traditionally served as a launchpad for promising tech companies. This year’s event will take place in San Francisco from October 13 to 15, with the winner earning the title of "future champion" and the opportunity to make a global impact. Past participants include industry giants like Cloudflare and Discord, as well as recent winners whose success stories inspire new startups.

Organizers emphasize that the competition is not for the most "polished" companies but for those offering truly groundbreaking ideas. The key question experts ask when evaluating applications is: "Does this project fundamentally change something?" The focus is not on incremental improvements but on solutions that can render existing technologies obsolete. Equally important are the founders’ team—their vision, motivation, and ability to explain why they are uniquely positioned to solve the problem.

Startup Battlefield is open to startups at various stages of development. Applications are accepted from teams with a working MVP, even if the product hasn’t yet launched or generated revenue. Special attention is given to geographic and industry diversity: organizers actively seek projects from regions and sectors that rarely receive mainstream attention. Previous rejections are not a barrier—many participants made it to the top 200 only after multiple attempts.

To increase their chances of selection, founders are advised to demonstrate a working prototype rather than relying solely on presentations or animated videos. It’s also crucial to honestly assess the competitive landscape: claims of having no competitors may raise doubts and undermine trust in the project. The story behind the company’s creation is just as important as technical details—this often-underrated part of the application helps experts gauge the team’s potential.

Applications are accepted until May 27. Selected participants will be notified two months before the conference. Organizers encourage founders not to hesitate in applying, even if the project feels "unfinished": the process itself helps refine the idea and prepare for the next steps.
