Startup Battlefield Returns to Australia: What Participation Offers Startups

TechCrunch and Stripe have announced the return of the Startup Battlefield competition to Australia. The event will be held on August 19, 2026, in Sydney as part of the Stripe Tour. Ten startups will have the opportunity to present their projects to leading investors, media representatives, and key players in Australia’s tech ecosystem.

The competition winner will automatically advance to the global Startup Battlefield 200 final at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, scheduled for October 2026. The top three projects will also receive up to $10,000 in Stripe credits. Organizers emphasize that the event will be a significant milestone for Australia’s startup community, bringing together founders, investors, and industry experts.

The previous Startup Battlefield in Sydney in 2017 yielded notable results. The winner, HealthMatch—a platform for matching patients to clinical trials using machine learning—raised over $25 million in investments and expanded operations to the U.S. The runner-up, FluroSat, later merged with another project to form Regrow Agriculture, securing over $60 million in total funding.

A total of 26 startups that participated in the 2017 competition attracted over $147 million in investments. Investors included Y Combinator, Blackbird Ventures, Square Peg, Microsoft, and Airtree. Organizers note that Startup Battlefield helps projects gain global recognition before they become widely known.

Applications for participation are open until July 6, 2026. Participation is free, with no equity stake required. The event will take place in-person in Sydney.
