Steam Machine Certified for Vulkan: Valve Edges Closer to Console Release

Valve is inching closer to the launch of its Steam Machine gaming console, as evidenced by its inclusion in the Khronos Group’s Vulkan-certified products database. The organization, which oversees the development of the Vulkan graphics API, has added the device to its list of compliant solutions. This certification confirms that the console’s hardware platform, operating system, and drivers are fully compatible with Vulkan—a critical requirement for game developers.
However, the certification does not guarantee performance benchmarks or specific game support. Steam Machine was first announced in November 2025 alongside the Steam Controller and Steam Frame VR headset, but its release has been repeatedly delayed. The primary obstacle has been the sharp rise in memory and storage prices, which risks pricing the console out of reach for mainstream consumers.
Despite these challenges, Valve continues to advance the project. The company previously launched the Steam Controller, which received positive reviews, though an official release date for Steam Machine remains unannounced. Industry experts suggest the console could hit the market by the end of the year if Valve successfully resolves supply chain issues and secures components at affordable prices.
