Summer Game Fest 2026: Game Announcements and Industry Challenges

At the Summer Game Fest 2026 event, trailers for over twenty new and highly anticipated games were presented. Among them are remakes of cult classics such as Resident Evil: Code Veronica, as well as sequels to popular franchises, including Final Fantasy 7 Revelation and Star Wars Zero Company. Additionally, sequels and new installments of well-known series like Alien: Isolation 2, Guild Wars 3, and The Wolf Among Us 2 were announced.

However, despite the abundance of announcements, the gaming industry is facing serious economic challenges. Due to the ongoing shortage of computer memory, prices for next-generation consoles, including the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, as well as portable devices like the Steam Deck and Lenovo Legion Go 2, have risen. This could significantly reduce demand for new hardware and, consequently, for games that require modern platforms.

Analysts warn that developers may face unexpected drops in sales. Many games, which have been in development for several years, are being released at a time when consumer purchasing power is declining. This is particularly relevant for big-budget projects, whose sales forecasts may be overestimated by millions of copies. The situation is exacerbated by the planned release of Grand Theft Auto 6 in November 2026, prompting other studios to avoid this period and delay their game releases to August-October or early 2027.
