Tencent Integrates AI Agent into WeChat* for Task Automation

Tencent is preparing to launch an embedded AI agent in WeChat* that will allow users to delegate routine tasks. According to informed sources, a prototype of the system is already undergoing internal testing. The agent will interact with millions of mini-programs within the platform, handling requests such as searching for venues or placing orders.

Access to the new functionality will be provided through a separate chat interface, accessible by swiping right on WeChat*'s main screen. Users will be able to issue commands, and the AI agent will independently select suitable mini-programs and execute the required actions. For example, it could locate a coffee shop based on specified criteria and place an order on the user’s behalf.

The exact timeline for the public launch remains unclear. The company plans to begin regulatory approval processes this month, followed by closed testing with a limited group of users. Further expansion of the functionality will depend on the results of regulatory reviews and approvals.
