TP-Link Unveils Wi-Fi 8 Router Release Plan: First Models to Launch in 2026

TP-Link, the market leader in consumer Wi-Fi routers in the U.S., has announced the development of next-generation devices based on the Wi-Fi 8 standard. Unlike previous versions, Wi-Fi 8 does not aim for a drastic increase in theoretical data transfer speeds but focuses on improving real-world performance and connection stability.

According to company representatives, the new devices will deliver up to a 33% boost in real-world throughput thanks to advanced modulation and coding techniques. Additionally, mesh system performance under high load is expected to improve by 15%, signal quality by 30%, and receiver sensitivity by 1–3 dB in the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands. The Archer 8 routers will feature AI-driven network optimization, enhanced cooling, and an upgraded antenna system.

However, the launch of these new products may be delayed due to certification issues. TP-Link has yet to receive approval from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to sell devices in the American market. Unlike competitors such as Netgear and Amazon/Eero, TP-Link is not included in the so-called 'Covered List,' which poses risks to the timely release of its products.

The first images of the Archer 8 showcase a minimalist design with RGB lighting and textured surfaces. The devices are expected to be manufactured outside the U.S., which may also impact the certification process.
