Xbox Elite 3 Prototype Leak: Built-in Screen and New Features

Photos of an Xbox Elite Series 3 prototype have surfaced online, seemingly marking the next generation of Microsoft’s flagship controller. The device was accidentally purchased by a Reddit user on OfferUp for $200, despite being officially marked as “NOT FOR SALE.”

The prototype’s standout feature is its built-in display, positioned near the mode-switch button. The screen displays Xbox Cloud Gaming connection icons and internal Microsoft resources, confirming the device’s authenticity. Additionally, the controller includes two new scroll wheels on the bottom edge, four sliding paddles, and an updated D-pad design.

Inside the battery compartment, a QR code was found—likely linking to repair instructions—and Torx T6 screws, suggesting Microsoft’s commitment to repairability. However, despite these innovations, the prototype remains non-functional: attempts to connect it to a console or PC were unsuccessful.

In May, Brazil’s regulator Anatel published images of the controller, revealing some of its features, including direct Xbox Cloud Gaming server support. Experts at The Verge speculate that an official Xbox Elite Series 3 announcement could arrive before the end of the year.
