Retroid, known for its Android gaming consoles, has once again faced quality control issues. This time, the problem concerns the Pocket 5 model, with owners reporting cracks in the device's case. The first complaints emerged nearly a year ago, yet the issue remains unresolved.
According to users, cracks appear in several areas: the top of the case near the L1/L2 buttons and the bottom near the microSD card slot. Notably, the defect affects devices across different color options. The leading theory is that overtightened screws during factory assembly cause the cracks, as they form near mounting holes.
Previously, a similar issue was observed in the Pocket Flip 2 model, where cracks appeared on the hinges. In the case of the Pocket 5, battery swelling is unlikely, given the short usage period and lack of visible case deformation.
The Retroid Pocket 5 features a Snapdragon 865 processor, an OLED display, and extended battery life. Despite hardware issues, it remains one of the top Android-based gaming consoles. A newer and more expensive model, the Retroid Pocket 6, is currently available on the market.
The company has yet to provide an official statement regarding the situation or potential support measures for affected users. Those experiencing the issue are advised to slightly loosen the screws on the back cover to prevent further damage.
