Waze Introduces New AI-Powered Features

Google-owned navigation app Waze has rolled out a series of updates, with the integration of its AI assistant, Gemini, taking center stage. These enhancements aim to improve user convenience through voice-controlled navigation and personalized route suggestions.

One of the standout features is the ability to use voice commands for reporting road incidents and updating maps. Drivers can now verbally notify the app about closed roads or incorrect map data, streamlining real-time updates. Additionally, the destination search function now supports voice queries, allowing users to ask for the nearest gas station with the lowest prices or a currently open café.

For those who prefer minimal distractions, Waze has introduced a mode with less intrusive voice notifications, enabling drivers to focus on music or podcasts without interruptions. The app also now includes a specialized mode for motorcyclists, which considers the unique dynamics of two-wheeled travel and delivers optimized routes with highly accurate arrival time predictions.

Another key improvement is route personalization based on a user’s travel history and local traffic patterns. If a driver frequently uses highways, the app will prioritize such routes. These updates reinforce Waze’s evolution into a tool that adapts to individual user needs.
