Windows Server 2022 Ends Mainstream Support in 90 Days

Microsoft has reminded users that mainstream support for Windows Server 2022 will end on October 13, 2026. This server OS version, released in September 2021, initially received a 10-year support lifecycle under the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC). After this date, users will only receive critical security updates under extended support, which will continue until October 14, 2031.

Microsoft emphasizes that the October 2026 update will be the final one under mainstream support. To continue receiving full technical support and updates, enterprise customers are advised to migrate to Windows Server 2025. The new version, publicly available since November 2024, offers enhanced infrastructure management capabilities, improved security, and better performance.

For those planning migration, a free 180-day trial version of Windows Server 2025 is available. This allows testing of the new OS before deploying it in a production environment. Microsoft has also extended hotpatching (hotpatching) support for Windows Server 2022 until October 2027, but only for systems running the Datacenter: Azure Edition edition.
