Wyze Recalls Over 320,000 Cameras Due to Fire and Explosion Risks

Wyze has announced a voluntary recall of its Solar Cam Pan security cameras after reports of overheating, fires, and even explosions. The issue stems from incorrect installation instructions, which may cause users to accidentally damage the lithium-ion battery’s metal casing.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), there have been 13 reported cases of camera overheating and six incidents involving fires or explosions. These events resulted in minor burns to six individuals. A total of 321,360 units sold in the U.S. and 2,560 in Canada are subject to the recall.

The recalled cameras feature a white casing and model number WYZESCPWH, listed on the back panel. The devices were sold through Home Depot, Micro Center, Wyze’s official website, Amazon, Temu, Best Buy, and other platforms. Owners are advised to immediately stop using the cameras if a long, flat wood screw was used during solar panel installation.

Wyze is offering affected customers several compensation options: a free replacement camera with a solar panel, a full refund, or a gift card for the purchase amount. To participate in the recall program, users must complete a form on Wyze’s website, after which firmware will be installed to discharge the battery. The camera will then be locked and must be disposed of according to local regulations.
