X* Introduces Built-in Video Editor for Original Content Creators

Social platform X* has introduced a built-in video editor and in-app recording tool within its iOS application. The update is designed to support creators who produce original content and combat the widespread practice of reposting others' materials. According to Product Head Nikita Bier, the platform intends to provide creators with tools for unique content and reward them accordingly.

New features include the ability to overlay subtitles in multiple languages with customizable appearance settings, as well as a green screen tool that allows users to use photos from their gallery or X* posts as backgrounds. The editor is currently available only in the iOS version of the app, as the Android version is undergoing redesign. Bier also noted that many popular accounts on the platform frequently repost materials, sometimes years after their initial publication.

However, experts doubt that technical tools alone will suffice to address the issue. To foster a sustainable creator ecosystem, X* must offer reliable monetization mechanisms, robust content theft protection, and effective bot mitigation. Currently, competitors like TikTok, Meta*, and YouTube already have advanced reward systems and copyright protections, making them more appealing to content creators.

The problem of spam and bots remains a critical challenge for X*. In April, Bier reported that the platform detects and blocks up to 208 bots per minute, with half of the product team working on anti-spam solutions. Without a comprehensive approach that includes improved moderation algorithms and copyright protection, the new tools may fail to deliver the expected impact.
