YouTube for TV Gets Updated AI-Powered Search Feature Ask YouTube

Google continues to integrate artificial intelligence technologies into its services. This time, the update targets the YouTube app for smart TVs, gaming consoles, and media players. The company has introduced the Ask YouTube feature, previously available on the web version of the platform. The tool allows users to search for videos using conversational queries rather than just keywords.

To activate the feature, users need to hold the microphone button on their remote control or enter a query in the search bar and then select the Ask YouTube option. The AI not only suggests relevant videos but also highlights specific segments within them, eliminating the need to watch entire clips. The feature works both on YouTube’s home page and while watching videos, though in the latter case, it initiates a new search instead of analyzing the current content.

Testing is currently limited to a small group of YouTube Premium subscribers in the U.S. aged 18 and older. In the coming months, Google plans to expand the feature’s availability to other countries while maintaining access restrictions for premium subscribers. Similar conditions are expected to apply to the TV version of YouTube, though the company has not yet provided further details.
